God created Man in His own Image, in the image of God He created him;
Updated: Sep 18, 2019
male and female He created them. God blessed them; and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply ....." Genesis 1:27-28. We see that God blessed them before He gave them the first command!
Everything that He commands us to do is always preceded with His blessing!
As if being made in His image was not incredible enough!
Then He says be fruitful before multiplying!
We all reproduce after our kind!
Therefore it is imperative that we bear good fruit.
A quick search for the word fruitful in a good concordance would be very fruitful!
We see in Matthew 3 how seriously bearing of fruit is taken when John The Baptist says to the Pharisees to 'bear fruit in keeping with repentance' and that the axe is already laid at the root of the trees; therefore every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Solemn words indeed!
So what is this fruit and how do we get it?
Jesus said " Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire and they are burned".
John 15:4-5 NASB
There is so much in these verses - why not go back over them one more time?
Abide, what a great word, reminds me of abode, a place of rest (chill out).
Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him". John 14:23
It really is a matter of loving Him and abiding in Him. He said earlier 'if you love me you will keep my commandments'. He also said that His commandments are not burdensome. These commandments are not restricted to the ten given to Moses, when we have an understanding of covenant we can understand that all He has is ours and all we have is His! More on that later.
The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Galatians 5:22-23
"Simon Peter, a bond-servant and apostle of Jesus Christ,
To those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ: Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust. Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For he who lacks these qualities is blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins. Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble; for in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you."
2 Peter 1:1-12 NASB
I make no apology for sharing so much Scripture, because it abides forever and it is all good.
We can see then that God Himself looks for fruit bearers, and He wants us to multiply.
“The first man, Adam, became a living soul.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit. However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural; then the spiritual. The first man is from the earth, earthy; the second man is from heaven. As is the earthy, so also are those who are earthy; and as is the heavenly, so also are those who are heavenly. Just as we have borne the image of the earthy, we will also bear the image of the heavenly".
1 Corinthians 15:45-49
Here we see that the natural came first ( just for clarity I am in no way suggesting that you don't share this wonderful Gospel until you are done receiving all the children He wants to bless you with) and then the spiritual!
With Abraham God said In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.
It is God's desire that we are fruitful and that we multiply both in the natural and the spiritual and that we reproduce after our kind!
